Indonesian officials have done a deal to hand over an alleged US conman who was working as a porn actor on a paradise island in exchange for two wanted Indonesian fugitives.

Marcus Beam, 49, is wanted by the US authorities after going on the run when he was accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in an investment fraud scheme.

But he apparently did not have the money when he got to Indonesia where he reportedly paid his expenses by making and selling sex videos on the resort island of Bali.

He had apparently managed to leave the country with a fake passport and was found living with his girlfriend in a villa in Badung on Bali.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission said on its website that Beam was an Illinois investment adviser accused of stealing more than 200,000 USD (152,863 GBP) from his clients. (https://bit.ly/3gFnGGe)

A complaint was filed with the US District Court in Chicago last September saying that the man from Woodridge, Illinois, used his firm Chase private equity company to solicit funds that he then spent on his own personal and business costs. He then made up account statements to hide the theft. (https://bit.ly/31rtpJf)

Images show Beam in handcuffs after his arrest at the police news conference in Bali where officials said they had also seized passports, a folding knife, 14 sex toys, five mobile phones and 13 other electronic devices.

Bali police chief Petrus Reinhard Golose said there were looking at whether any of the sex videos he made involved any local people in illegal actions and added that Beam had changed identity several times as he moved around the country.

Indonesia’s National Police’s public information bureau spokesman Awi Setiyono said US officials agreed to hand over two Indonesian fugitives in exchange, who were named as Indra Budiman and Sai Ngo Ng.

It was not revealed what crimes the two Indonesians are wanted for.
