This is the moment US cops rescue a beaver trapped in a pond by making a ramp with an old plank of wood after numerous failed attempts to entice it over the wall and back into its lake home.

The incident was filmed in the city of Southlake in the US state of Texas and the footage was shared on social media by the local police.

The Southlake police said on Facebook: “Beaver rescue! A tense moment, after a 30-minute rescue attempt, as our beaver crawls up our make-shift ramp to safety!”

According to the police, the beaver was spotted on a blue float in a pond behind the Central Market and officers first tried to catch it in a net.

They tried several other unsuccessful methods until one cop had the brainwave to balance a plank on the side of the pond and the float to allow the beaver to climb over the wall and re-enter the lake.

Luckily, the beaver took advantage of the ramp and quickly returned home.
