Manchester United target Martin Odegaard has dealt the club a blow by saying he sees himself staying at Real Sociedad “for two years”.

Odegaard made the comments in an interview with sports news outlet EuroSport after his impressive start to the La Liga season has seen him linked with a move to the Premier League.

The Real Madrid loanee said: “The idea is to respect the contract and the loan. I have a contract with Real Sociedad right now and I am happy in the team.

“That is how I want it to be until the end of my two years here. I hope I can continue here because I enjoy playing football at a good club.”

This comes after he won the La Liga Player of the Month award for September.

When asked about his relationship with parent club Real Madrid, Odegaard said: “Real Sociedad and their staff are the ones that make my plans but Real Madrid also tell me how they think I am doing.

“They congratulated me recently for my good start in La Liga, they told me they are happy about it. As for telling me the more technical aspects of the game, Real Sociedad staff take that role in the daily work.”

Norwegian international Odegaard is set to play against the Spanish national team this Saturday 12th October for the UEFA 2020 EURO Qualifiers.

He told media: “I do not think Spain are very worried about me. I know them and they will play their game.

“Spain are not usually affected by the teams they play against. I doubt they are thinking about me or Norway in that sense.”
