This is the funny moment a university mascot cat wearing a mortarboard escapes during its own ‘graduation ceremony’.

The incident took place at the De La Salle University Manila (DLSU) in the northern Philippine capital Manila when uni heads decided to throw a graduation ceremony for the male feline called Archer.

The campus cat was even presented with a lifetime alumni card, according to reports.

The ginger-and-white mascot may now be a card-carrying university graduate, but the ceremony did not all go according to plan, as seen in the funny footage.

In the clip, handlers open the door to Archer’s pink cage just as the mortarboard -wearing kitty leaps out and tries to escape through the shrieking crowd.

In another scene, Archer legs it through the campus as a man in a black T-shirt gives chase and onlookers cheer.

However, the campus cat was quickly retrieved and brought back to his graduation bash.

According to local media, Archer was thrown a graduation ceremony because the cat has gone to live with a university staff member due to medical reasons.

Professor Laureen Velasco told local media: “We cannot guarantee he will not be fed human food [if he stays] which is bad for his fatty liver level.”

Meanwhile, netizen ‘SleepyFire’ said: “Our campus cat Archer had his ‘graduation’ and he ran away after being presented!”

‘Alwayspjy’ commented: “They really interviewed Archer and even gave him an alumni card which is why DLSU is so extra! Haha.”

‘Lahzuhlpls’ remarked: “Is there a better grad pic than this? Congrats, Archer!”
