The navy’s mine disposal management team and the Underwater Disaster Management team neutralised the WW2 era German mine off the coast of Diros, Laconia, on the 22nd September.

The joint operation found and detonated the mine, that was anchored 20 metres below sea level.

In the 22 second clip, a diver can be seen swimming up to the mine, identified by the navy as a German mooring mine, type GQ.

The GQ, or EMD, is a spherical contact mine 39 inches (1 m) in diameter. It used five Hertz horns with a 331 lbs. (150 kg) charge, according to Navweapons.com.

Mooring depths were usually at 55 or 109 fathoms (100 or 200m).

An antenna version with four horns was identified by the British as type GV.
