This is the moment hundreds of Chinese students cheer as a boy plays basketball alone in the rain while holding an umbrella.

The heartwarming scene was filmed at a school in the city of Jiujiang in the Chinese province of Jiangxi.

The footage has been shared widely on the Chinese social network Douyin, also known as TikTok.

The camerawoman, surnamed Li, said she heard students loudly cheering something taking place outside and went to investigate.

Li said every floor of the school building was crammed with students watching the boy practising in the pouring rain so she decided to film him sinking hoops.

In the footage, the boy is seen alone on the basketball court while holding an umbrella to keep him dry.

With his free hand, he launches the basketball at the hoop and hundreds of school kids cheer and applaud when he scores.

The students are seen standing on the balcony of every floor of the school building while making crowd noise usually heard in large stadiums.

Spurred on by the large crowd and electrifying cheers, the boy stayed out in the rain practising his basketball skills with accurate one-handed throws.
