This is the moment an angry homeless man on drugs pelts a painting of the Virgin Mary inside a cathedral with stones because he did not receive the miracles he had asked for.

The incident took place in the metropolitan cathedral of Guadalajara, in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, when a homeless man, identified as Jorge, 38, threw stones against the framed painting of the Virgin Mary.

According to local media, he admitted that he attacked the painting because the Virgin had not given him the miracles he asked for and he blamed her for his addiction issues and bad luck.

The video recorded by the CCTV cameras and shared by local media, shows Jorge approaching the place where the painting is located.

He is seen in front of the painting while a churchgoer is reportedly putting money inside the poor box.

After the churchgoer leaves, Jorge is seen putting a bag on the ground before pulling from it a number of stones which he throws at the painting.

It is said that he broke the glass in the frame and damaged the painting.

Cathedral staff rushed to the scene after hearing from the sound of glass breaking and Jorge fled.

However, he was later caught by police who were guarding the church.

Officers believe that he was suffering from the effects of solvent abuse at the time.

The damage is valued at 2,500 MXN (101 GBP) and the man has been sent to the prosecution to be charged.
