Ukrainian Football Club Mocked For Announcing New Player With Photo Edited With Microsoft Paint

A Ukrainian football club has been widely mocked for announcing a new player using a photograph that appears to have been edited with Microsoft Paint.

Douglas Bergqvist, 28, has just been signed by Ukrainian Premier League side FC Chernomorets Odesa, which took to Instagram to share the news.

Usually, clubs post images showing the player signing the contract or something as equally innocuous. But Chornomorets decided to take a different route and posted a photograph of the Swedish player wearing his shirt from his former club, Kalmar FF.

They then appear to have simply painted their own club colours – black and purple – over it using Microsoft Paint.

To make sure that everyone understood that Bergqvist, who plays as a defender, was now wearing his new club’s colours, the club even pasted their name – ‘Chernomorets’ – in Cyrillic over the colours.

The club captioned the picture: “In Turkey, the Swede Douglas Bergqvist was found in the team. Four consonants in a row in a name is a requisition for success for any football commentator.

“Douglas joined Chornomorets from Sweden’s Kalmar FC. Let the games begin!”

Douglas Bergqvist was born in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and his family moved to England when he was seven years old. He grew up playing youth football for Reading and Queens Park Rangers.

He signed for Exeter City in June 2013 before returning to Sweden in 2014. He moved to Polish club Arka Gdynia in February 2020 before signing for Ukrainian club Chornomorets Odesa in January 2022.
