Hungarian cops have arrested six members of a criinal organisation that worked with UK based conmen to extort money and valuables from OAPs in Hungary.

According to local police, the suspects were arrested in three locations in Hungary, Budapest, Izsofalva and Mako, on 17th February and are also probing their UK alleged partners in crime that set up the deals.

According to reports, two gang members based in the UK called elderly Hungarians and claimed to be acting on behalf of relatives who were in dire straits and needed cash.

The suspects then reportedly instructed the OAP victims that a trusted colleague would visit them to collect the money, adding that jewellery items were also acceptable.

Gang members based in Hungary would then visit their homes to collect the valuables.

According to local media, many OAPs handed over their savings and valuable belongings to the suspects while others called their family members to check if the back story was true before refusing to pay up.

Police said they have arrested six men and are still investigating two suspected gang members based in the UK.

The probe continues.
