The incident began in North London’s Wood Green area at around 9.20pm on 20th May this year.

Marian Vasilica Dragoi, 19, from Teynton Terrace in London’s borough of Haringey, led the police on a dangerous 30-minute pursuit after they noticed his motorcycle had false licence plates.

In an attempt to escape the police, Dragoi drove through multiple red lights at a speed of 70mph in a 20mph zone before reaching a top speed of 180mph once he got on the M1 motorway.

At one point, he even recklessly drove on the wrong side of the road, putting many road users’ lives in great danger.

The National Police Air Service helicopter successfully kept track of the teenager as he drove across the counties of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire before he stopped at a petrol station to re-fuel where he was finally arrested.

It was later determined that the teenager did not have the required licence or insurance to be able to safely operate the motorbike.

Dragoi has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop for the police, and driving a motorcycle without a licence or insurance at the Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

His trial will take place at the Wood Green Crown Court on 14th January 2021.

Sergeant Tony McGovern, who arrested the boy, said: “He failed to stop for police and continued to put his own life and the lives of other road users, as well as innocent pedestrians, in danger.”
