An Uber driver who won USD 100,000 on the lottery has told how he wants to use his win to help feed homeless people.
Nicolas Houssini – Blacksburg, Virginia State, USA, – was overjoyed when he realised that he had won the New Year’s Millionaire Raffle on 1st January.
He became one of seven USD 100,000 (GBP 81,000) winners after he bought ticket number #580519 at his local 7-Eleven.
Nicolas explained that he plans to use a part of his winnings to help feed homeless people when he collected his prize at Virginia Lottery headquarters in Richmond on 5th January.
He said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “I love Blacksburg, and I love people! I want to give back!”
The other six winning tickets were bought in Chantilly, Fredericksburg, Gloucester, Midlothian, Portsmouth and Woodstock.
Virginia Lottery said: “Five USD 1 million [GBP 810,870] winning tickets were bought in Burke, Danville, Henrico, Midlothian and Woodbridge.
“An additional 1,000 tickets each won USD 500 [GBP 405].”
The lottery says that all their profits go to the education of students ranging from kindergarten to the 12th grade (K-12 education).
They said: “Mr Houssini lives in Montgomery County, which received more than USD 5.8 million [GBP 4.7 million] in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
“In Fiscal Year 2022, the Lottery raised more than USD 779 million [GBP 631,5 million] for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.”
