Rescue dogs along with a drone equipped with thermal imaging cameras and a rubber dinghy were used by over 150 rescue workers and police officers to locate the missing child, but the initial search was unsuccessful.

As the search continued the following day, a lifeless body of a child believed to be Timnit’s was finally found in the afternoon.

According to a report by the German Press Agency, it was later confirmed that the dead girl was indeed Timnit.

The city mayor Heiko Wingenfeld expressed his sympathy to the bereaved – he said: “The news of the death of little Timnit moved me deeply.

“My thoughts are now with the parents and the family.

“I hope that they will find support and consolation while going through this terrible experience.”

Wingenfeld also thanked all full-time and voluntary rescue workers in Fulda, saying: “They tried everything possible in the dark and freezing cold last night and today to find the child alive”.

As stated in local media portal ‘Bild’, the police currently have no evidence of outside influences in the girl’s death but they will continue to further investigate the case.
