The body of a two-year-old boy has been found drowned in a lake after three carers who were supposed to be looking after him on a day out left him behind, and only noticed when they returned to the nursery.

The minders and the group of young children visited the Neustaedter See in the city of Magdeburg in central Germany on 2nd October.

The minders had noticed Adam was missing at around midday, when they returned to the centre from the nearby lake. They called the police, who mounted a large search operation involving ambulance services, sniffer dogs and a helicopter.

Father Mohammad only found out there was a problem when his wife called him at work to say that the police had visited her and that Adam was missing.

After an hour and a half of searching, the emergency services found Adam, who they flew to Magdeburg University Hospital by helicopter. The boy reportedly died in hospital.

Mohammad has accused the daycare centre of negligence. Speaking about the minders to local media, the devastated father said: “They must get what they deserve.”
