This picture of two older women in Spain speaking from either end of a public park bench having put down a sheet to protect themselves from the virus and while wearing masks to avoid spreading COVID-19 has gone viral.

The image was shared by Spanish professional basketball coach Juan Manuel Hurtado Perez, 46, locally known as ‘Piti’ Hurtado to his 59,4000 online followers on Tuesday 10th November.

It was taken in the Tres Cantos municipality in the Spanish capital Madrid.

The two women took measures to spend some time out in the sun and have a conversation on a public bench while still adhering to safety protocols to stop the spread of COVID-19.

They are seen wearing their facemasks and engaging in a conversation while sitting on a bench they had apparently previously covered with a sheet so as to not touch it directly.

Piti Hurtado captioned the snap: “Spain. 2020. Two friends speaking. Bedsheet and distance.”

The women gained the support of several netizens as Spanish media commend their actions as an example of responsibility and how people can help beat COVID-19 as the Iberian country is fighting a second wave of the virus.

Netizen ‘CBonilla_’ said: “These women sure are generals!”

‘jmalema1’ wrote: “What geniuses.”

‘JMoliwood’ commented: “What a great picture!”

According to a comment by Piti Hurtado, he says he saw them in the afternoon while he was on his way to the shop when he saw them sitting there enjoying their short moment before they folded the sheet and returned to their homes.

The coach currently does not have a team but is also known for his work as a sports analyst and television commentator.

Additional safety measures have been recently passed in Spain to help fight the spread of the virus such as curfews across the country and confining certain regions with higher cases including Andalusia where 81,361 Brits live, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University, the country has registered 1,437,220 cases leading to 40,461 deaths.
