This viral video viewed nearly four million times online shows two young girls haplessly playing on the roof of a moving BMW as the 4×4 drives along a busy motorway.

Authorities in the city of Hechi, which is in South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, were alerted to the incident after it became widely shared on social media.

The video shows the two girls sitting in the sunroof of the BMW X1, with one of the children even resting her entire right leg on the roof of the vehicles as it travels on a busy main road.

Neither child appears concerned about the potential dangers of their stunt, and their parents do not ask them to climb back into the car either.

Hechi police said they tracked down the owner of the car, a 67-year-old surnamed Huang, who claimed the vehicle was usually driven by his daughter despite it having been registered under his name.

Huang’s daughter reportedly admitted to the incident when authorities contacted her on 2nd May.

However, she said it happened in June 2018 – when she was drunk in the car and her friend was driving.

The authorities said both Huang and his daughter would be summoned in for further questioning today (3rd May).

They are to be fined for the stunt, which endangered members of the public as well as the two girls.

The police also noted that drivers can be fined retrospectively within two years of any road offences.
