The medical triumph was carried out at the Zhejiang University Children’s Hospital in Hangzhou city, in Zhejiang Province.

The sisters who were born with connected abdomens and shared an umbilical cord were surgically separated after two and a half hours op 40 days after their birth.

Following the separation, the pair underwent simultaneous sternum, diaphragm and abdominal wall repair operations in two adjacent operating rooms.

The chief surgeon of the operation and hospital director said that at present, the vital signs of both sisters are stable.

One sister weighed 6.7 pounds (3 kilogrammes), and the other one tipped the scales at 5.07 pounds (2.2 kilogrammes).
