TV Channel Warned For Airing Too Many Breasts And Buttocks In Baywatch Movie

An Indonesian TV channel has been warned by the government watchdog for broadcasting too many “thighs, breasts, and buttocks” in their recent airing of the 2017 movie ‘Baywatch’.

Trans TV, an Indonesian free-to-air television channel based in South Jakarta, aired ‘Baywatch’, starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, on 12th July before the 10pm watershed.

Even though the channel rated the film suitable for teens and older viewers and blurred some parts, the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) said the Seth Gordon-directed movie still showed too much skin for audiences.

The government watchdog said in a statement: “KPI found depictions of parts of the female body, including thighs, breasts, and buttocks.

“Even though they were blurred, that was used as a justification to air the film before 10pm.”

One Indonesian netizen pointed out that the popular 1990s TV version of ‘Baywatch’ was aired on television for many years, however, KPI was not formed until 2002.

Other online commentators pointed out that many Indonesian soap operas depict issues such as child abuse and adultery on prime time slots.

Meanwhile, Trans TV has yet to respond to the watchdog’s warning.

According to local media, KPI regularly forces TV channels to censor or blur parts of the female body in broadcasts, including competitive swimmers in televised games and even Sandy Cheeks, the anthropomorphic squirrel in ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’.
