This elderly Turkish woman has been wearing nothing but red clothes for 67 years after a bearded wise man appeared in a dream and told her to wear the colour until the day she dies.

Nafiye Caz, 77, who lives in the district of Yedisu in the Turkish province of Bingol, is dubbed ‘The Woman in Red’ by locals.

She has 11 children and 23 grandchildren and has been wearing nothing but red clothes since she was 10 years old, when the bearded elderly man appeared to her in the dream, telling her to wear red until the day she dies.

She said: “I did what he told me and wore the colour. It has been red for as long as I can remember. My grandfather used to bring me red clothes.”

Since that night, Caz has only worn the colour, from her sweaters down to her socks and shoes.

She said other people are usually surprised to see her appearing in the single primary colour, adding: “A young man from Yedisu once looked at me and said ‘I have travelled the world and I have never seen a woman like you before’.

“He took a picture of me with his phone. I also have a daughter living in Austria who sends me red clothes.”

Nafiye said she even shunned white on her wedding day and wore a bright red dress for the occasion.

Married for 55 years, her husband Hikmet Caz pointed out: “She loves red, so I always buy her red clothes, shoes and socks. I also like red.

“Red is the colour of the Turkish flag!”

He added: “When we went to visit our daughter in Austria, we had to get a passport. The police said to my wife ‘why are you wearing red?’

“My wife replied ‘I am the Turkish flag’. They immediately gave us our passports!”
