A Turkish man has been arrested for shooting his wife dead with a hunting rifle and claiming she took her own life during an argument.

The incident took place in the rural neighbourhood of Kocatepe in the district of Nizip in the south-eastern Turkish province of Gaziantep at around noon on 25th January.

Okkes Palamut, 27, called the emergency services to report that his wife had attempted suicide.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and transferred mother-of-two Dilan Palamut, 26, to the Nizip State Hospital.

Okkes accompanied his seriously injured wife in the ambulance. However, she succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Hospital doctors informed the police that the victim’s death appeared suspicious, and Okkes was taken into custody and questioned.

He reportedly told officers that his wife shot herself during an argument at home.

However, the victim’s older brother also suspects that Okkes carried out the crime.

Mesut Kacar, age not disclosed, said: “My brother-in-law is not a normal person, he uses drugs. After an argument at home, he shot my sister in the chest. He then went with her to the hospital without shame and was detained there. I hope he gets the punishment he deserves.”

Dilan’s body was handed over to her relatives following an autopsy.

Okkes Palamut, who denied the accusation, was charged with ‘deliberate murder’ by the court on duty.

The investigation continues.
