This is the moment a man attacks his teenage girlfriend with an axe in the street as five men playing a board game do nothing to stop the attack.
The incident took place in the district of Antakya in the Turkish province of Hatay on 8th October.
Elif M., 17, was arguing with her boyfriend Ibrahim K., 24, in the street when he pulled out an axe and started to chase her.
The teen ran over to a group of men playing backgammon outside a building to ask for help.
In the footage, the men apparently see the suspect approaching and decline to help the frantic girl, even when she runs behind their chairs for cover.
One of the younger men even gets to his feet and walks away as the suspect allegedly attacks Elif with several blows with the axe.
As Ibrahim flees the scene, no one goes over to the injured girl to check on her.
The following day, the Hatay Governor’s Office said in a statement: “As a result of the investigations carried out by our office regarding the incident of violence against a female victim, it is understood that the suspect was caught and detained as a result of the work of our police units and that the life of the victim was not in danger.
“We will continue to work with all our units to prevent violence against women with zero tolerance.”
The suspect, who is allegedly a drug addict, has been charged with causing intentional injury.
It is unclear how injured the teen was after the incident or whether she needed medical treatment, However, Elif refused to file a complaint against her aggressor and even begged officers to release him while he was under arrest at the station, according to the news site Haber Global.
The teenager reportedly threw herself to the ground in an emotional state and demanded to see a judge, and officers had to calm her down.
The investigation into the incident continues.
