A Turkish man has found a four-layered egg in his back garden that resembled a Russian-doll effect.

Gardener Tahir Tayboga found chicken feathers and an egg-like object next to it at his property in the district of Seyhan in the south-eastern Turkish city of Adana.

Slightly confused, he inspected the object as the outside did not appear like a normal egg.

Tayboga said he then peeled away multiple shells before finding a normal pristine egg inside.

He said: “There was an egg inside the other shells. I did not know what it was so I asked experts. It is the first time I have ever seen such a thing, I was scared to touch it at first.”

Nihat Kose, President of the Adana Chamber of Veterinarians, said the phenomenon happens in one in every million cases and it was the first time in his 36-year career that he had seen such an egg.

Kose said; “If the chicken cannot complete the egg formation process, it will cover it with calcium a second time, assuming that it had not been coated.

“The average hen lays an egg every 24 to 26 hours. If the egg is not laid due to an anatomical problem, a second egg will merge with the first and then you have an egg inside an egg.

Kose confirmed that Tayboga’s egg was laid by a hen despite appearing different on the outside.
