A Turkish court is having to deal with a bizarre theft case after a new flat owner accused a neighbour of stealing his bedroom.

The flat owner, who claims his three-bedroom flat became a two-bedroom flat after the theft, was identified as Bunyamin Seyhan, whose age was not given and who lives in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

He told police when reporting the stolen bedroom that he had purchased the flat about a year earlier as a three-bedroom property, and when he moved in, he was shocked to discover that one of the bedrooms had vanished, and what’s more, the space that it contained had become part of his neighbour’s flat.

The landlord came to his apartment and realized that his neighbour stole one of the rooms and made it her own in Istanbul, Turkey. (Newsflash)

He said that when he walked through the front door and went to where the bedroom had been previously, there was no longer a door and just a wall.

Seyhan, who went to his unnamed next-door neighbour’s flat, then saw that his bedroom had ended up included in the neighbour’s flat, and when he complained, he was told that it was all legal.

He said the neighbour told him: “We got permission from the municipality, they told us we can do whatever we want.”

The alleged bedroom thief, who is accused of taking advantage of the period when the flat was unoccupied to steal the bedroom, waited for the tenants to move out before speedily knocking a hole in the wall and then bricking up the other doorway.

The woman, who stated that she did not “steal the bedroom”, argued that the room should actually belong to her own flat.

Turkish media reported that Seyhan filed a complaint against his neighbour and is ready to take her to court to get his bedroom back.
