These horrific images show a Turkish builder and father of five impaled by a metal rod and dangling in the air after he fell from the sixth floor of construction site in front of his son.
Ahmet Ali, 53, was killed while working at the 14-storey construction site on Fuat Kuscuoglu Street in the district of Osmangazi in the city of Bursa in the north-western Turkish province of the same name at around 4.30pm on 15th February.
According to local reports, the builder lost his balance and fell from the sixth floor, landing on a metal rod on the first floor and dying at the scene.
The emergency services were called to the site and Ali’s impaled body was removed and taken to the morgue of Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute to determine his exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, the regional Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the construction worker’s death.
The father of five lost his life in front of his 20-year-old son Derman Ali, who was also working at the building site. The grieving son said: “My dad fell from the sixth floor right in front of my eyes. I saw everything.”
He added: “That image will never leave my mind.”
Derman said: “We are five siblings. My father worked in construction on minimum wage and looked after seven of us including my mother.
“We went to work together every day. Normally, our shift would end at 6pm, but my dad said, ‘let’s finish work early today, let’s go around 4.30pm’. Just as we were getting ready to finish, the accident happened.”
He added: “When I came down in shock after seeing my dad fall from the sixth floor, I thought I would see him lying on the ground, but I saw him hanging from the scaffolding bar on the first floor.”
The father and son had posed for photos at the construction one day before the tragic incident.
The investigation into Ali’s death is ongoing.
