The eight-year-old girl who was adopted by a family in the US has told the Romanian foster family who raised her for eight years and fighting to have her returned that she is “very happy” in America and wants to stay there.

According to local media, little Sorina Sacarin was raised by foster parents Mariana and Vasile Saramat in the city of Baia de Arama in the western Romanian county of Mehedinti before being adopted by another Romanian family settled in the United States.

The Saramat foster family however wanted to keep her and are still battling in court to annul the adoption because they would like to adopt the girl themselves.

Local media said that the unnamed Romanian family in the US won custody in June last year and little Sorina moved to North America the following month.

The foster family appealed the decision, but were reportedly overruled in September but are continuing their legal battle for custody of the girl.

However, the Romanian authorities said the “post-adoption monitoring in the US shows an absolutely smooth integration”.

A spokesperson for the National Authority for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Children and Adoptions said: “Sorina is still being monitored by us and our partners in the United States.

“She is very doing well and she has integrated well. She has started school and has some friends. Social workers in the US send photos of her to our Embassy in America every month as well as provide general information.”

Sorina recently posted a video on her social media page were she asked her foster parents to “stop talking nonsense” after they launched the custody case.

The girl said: “Mrs and Mrs Mariana and Vasile Saramat, thank you for raising me until I was eight years old. I’m doing well with this family, they love me and I love them too.

“I take care of myself, I feed myself, I have nice clothes and I dress nice, the teachers at school are also very nice, the school is good, I play piano, I swim, I do gymnastics.

“I love them and they love me, so please stop talking nonsense. If you stop doing that, we could come to Romania to visit you.”
