This footage shows how a strolling pedestrian had a lucky escape when a toppling tree trunk missed him by a whisker.
A CCTV camera caught the near-miss as it unfolded on a street in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, south-eastern Brazil on Tuesday morning (4th October).
The footage shows how the man walks down the pavement with a rucksack slung over his shoulder as he takes a sip from a drink can.
But just as he passes a parked car, two trunks of the same roadside tree suddenly split at the base, and one of them comes crashing down onto the vehicle.
The girthy, five-metre-tall trunk is so heavy that the car is dented by the impact, and the concrete pavement is left cracked from the tree being uprooted.
Local residents and workers told local media that the tree was old, and the City of Belo Horizonte concluded that earlier heavy wind and rain had provoked its collapse.
The authorities advised locals to call the Fire Department if they notice any other trees they believe may be at risk of toppling.
