This is the heart-stopping moment a dog is filmed perilously close to the edge of an unfinished skyscraper’s 36th-floor balcony before rescuers managed to secure it after 10 days without food or water.

Emergency service workers and builders were baffled as to how the dog ended up on the 36th floor when they carried out the high-rise rescue effort in the district of Akcaburgaz in the municipality of Esenyurt in the Turkish province of Istanbul.

The stray dog had reportedly made its way up to the 38-storey building’s anti-penultimate floor before becoming trapped there 10 days before it was spotted and rescued.

When firemen and cops arrived on the scene to retrieve the pooch, it was reportedly agitated. However, the officials managed to calm it down, approach it and capture it using a rod and net.

Footage filmed at the scene on a firefighter’s mobile phone shows the dog resting on the edge of a balcony whose safety railing has not yet been built at a hair’s length from a perilous drop.

After rescuing the famished female dog, which was all skin and bones after 10 days without food or water, officers then took it in turns to carry it down 36 flights of stairs in their arms.

They then handed it over to state-employed vets, who gave it a medical checkup. It was not reported what the dog’s fate will be, but it is expected that it will be put up for adoption.
