This is what the front of a high-speed train looks like after colliding with a herd of horses that were grazing along a railway track in Kazakhstan.

Footage also shows the bodies of 37 dead horses that line the sides of the railway track after being struck by the speeding train.

The incident took place in the early hours of the morning near the city of Kokshetau in the province of Akmola in northern Kazakhstan while the horses were grazing either side of the tracks.

The driver attempted to brake, but was unable to stop the train in time, according to reports.

Local media said that 37 horses that died were killed on the spot and an eyewitness filmed their bodies lining the length of the track.

The 43-year-old farmer responsible for the animals at the time has reportedly been detained and may be liable for damage to the train.

It is currently unclear why the farmer allowed the horses to graze so close to the railway tracks.

Netizen ‘Xenia Godunova’ said: “It’s so sad, I feel sorry for the poor animals and wonder how the train driver did not manage to stop in time and ended up killing so many horses?!”

An anonymous netizen said: “They need to punish the farmer so that everyone else learns the consequences of negligence.”
