Train Climbing Passenger Zapped By High Voltage Lines

This is the moment a young man is filmed climbing the top of a stopped train before receiving an electric shock when he accidentally touches the high-voltage overhead wires.

The man identified only as Mr Wu by local media had run out of the train when it stopped at Xinwuri railway station in Taiwan’s western city of Taichung on 3rd February.

He had allegedly been harassing passengers inside carriage 5 of the northbound train before sprinting out onto the platform and climbing the outside of the vestibule above car 7, the authorities said.

CCTV footage shows Mr Wu, reportedly aged 21, reaching the top of the train when he suddenly collapses amid an explosion of bright sparks after he comes in contact with the power lines above the tracks.

Moments later he is filmed attempting to jump off the train but collapsing onto the platform with shredded trousers.

According to the Taichung City Fire Department, Mr Wu suffered second-degree burns on 36 percent of his body.

He remained conscious as he was taken to Chung Shan Medical University Hospital’s burn ward for treatment.

Northbound local train 2190, which Mr Wu reportedly boarded at Changhua railway station, was delayed for over an hour before service resumed, the Taiwan Railway Administration said.

Investigations into Mr Wu’s actions, details of which wer enot given, were still ongoing at the time of writing.
