These are the last moments of two teenage girls playfully splashing around in a fast-flowing river before they lose their balance and are swept away.

The shocking incident happened at the Capakcur river in the Bingol Province of Turkey when secondary school students Elif Yilmaz and Hatun Barca were playing with a group of friends.

In the video, three girls can be seen playing in the shallows of the river, splashing each other with water as they laugh.

Elif and Hatun then begin grappling in the water when they lose their balance and are dragged into the deeper water as their onlooking friends scream.

Local media report the friends called the emergency services and units from the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) and the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) went to the scene along with firefighters.

However, when the rescuers entered the water they could only pull the girls’ lifeless bodies from the current.

The bodies were then taken to the Bingol State Hospital’s morgue.

One netizen commented: “Such a pity, they were unaware of how strong of a force the water is, they were just playing and having fun, rest in peace.”

And ‘Gulizar Demir’ added: “Such a pity for these beauties. May God give strength to their parents.’
