This is the moment a traffic cop dealing with the aftermath of a motorway collision nearly becomes a victim himself when an out-of-control hatchback crashes into his service vehicle as he stands nearby.

The dramatic double traffic incident was captured by a traffic camera on the Jinan-Qingdao Expressway over coastal city of Qingdao in East China’s Shandong Province on 31st October.

In the footage, uniformed officers arrive at the scene of a rear-end collision after a Volvo SUV slams into the back of a stationary sanitation lorry.

The Volvo is badly damaged and later towed away, with traffic officers cordoning off affected lanes and directing traffic.

However, as they prepare to pack up their traffic cones and reopen the motorway to traffic, their pickup truck is rear-ended by an out-of-control BYD hatchback driver.

The small car crashes into the back of the service vehicle as the cop stands in front of it, sending the officer running in the opposite direction as the pickup flips onto its side and threatens to land right on top of him.

Qingdao motorway police said the officer was luckily unharmed and managed to escape, while both the Volvo owner who caused the initial crash and the subsequent BYD hatchback driver were not seriously harmed.

Both crashes were caused by lapses in concentration on the part of the motorists, the police said.

Investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
