This viral video seen more than 10 million times shows a group of tourists bouncing on a brand new 110,000-GBP wind turbine blade “like a seesaw” and leaving it damaged.

Officials in the town of Fancun, which is in Yiyang County in China’s central province of Henan, say they are investigating after the video became widely viewed and shared on 13th March.

According to reports, up to 20 tourists were seen bouncing up and down off the 45-metre (150-foot) turbine blade, which had recently been delivered as a replacement to Fancun Wind Farm.

The visitors were using the machine part “like a seesaw”, reports said, adding that each pricey blade costs an eye-watering 1 million RMB (113,800 GBP) or more.

In the social media footage, which is believed to have been filmed on 11th March, the wind turbine blade already appears to have been damaged by the unruly tourist activity, having been bent down the middle due to their jumping up and down on a slope.

An operational wind turbine can be seen turning in the background near the tourists, who are now the subjects of an official investigations.

According to the authorities, staff member stopped the unruly behaviour and drove the tourists from the wind turbine.

A special task force will visit the villagers involved in order to warn and education them, a statement said.

It is unclear whether they will be fined.

The Fancun Wind Farm is the result of a 500-million-RMB (57-million-GBP) investment by the local government, reports said.
