A Major League Soccer player for the Portland Timbers has been suspended after his wife made tearful allegations of domestic violence and claimed he had cheated on her with at least six women.
She also claimed that he had been violent towards their children, whose names and ages have not been disclosed.
The player has been named as Peruvian professional footballer Andy Polo, 27, who plays as a winger for the Portland Timbers in the north-western US state of Oregon, as well as the Peruvian national team.
The WAG has been named as Genesis Alarcon, also 27, and she said that not only had the children witnessed all the violence he allegedly inflicted on her, she also claimed that he was violent towards them as well.
Speaking about her kids, she said: “They didn’t want to look at him, they were scared.”
The shocking claims were made on Tuesday, 8th February, when Peruvian TV presenter Magaly Medina interviewed Alarcon.
The mother alleged that the footballer had been violent towards their children for bizarre reasons, such as losing a sock behind a bed. She said: “He pinched him because my son couldn’t find a sock that had fallen behind the bed. That was at his grandmother’s house, at his mother’s house.”
She added: “There were always problems, even in front of my children. My children, when they talked to him, they wold see him and look at me, they didn’t want to look at him. They were scared.”
She also claimed that he had given the children lousy toys for Christmas, that fell apart as soon as they had unwrapped them, despite reportedly earning over PEN 125,000 (GBP 24,300) per month.
Alarcon also said there were still Christmas presents he had not yet given the children, adding that their father had not sent anything to them for a long time.
She also said that when they returned to Peru from the United States in December, the footballer allegedly stopped paying rent on a property they were living in.
Alarcon claims she and her children are currently living with other family members, sleeping on a bed in the living room. She also said she is selling her shoes and other personal items to cover expenses because the footballer, she says, is not supporting his family.
She has reportedly filed a complaint against the footballer in a bid to see him take responsibility as a father and meet his obligations.
Alarcon also claimed that Polo had been unfaithful to her with at least six other women, saying: “He has humiliated me, he has mistreated me, he has been unfaithful to me with six women, of whom I have found out, of whom I have seen conversations, because there could be many more.”
After the shocking revelations, Major League Soccer in the United States issued a statement in which it said: “Major League Soccer has suspended Portland Timbers player Andy Polo following allegations of domestic violence.
“Effective immediately, Mr. Polo is prohibited from engaging in all team activities pending the outcome of the MLS investigation. MLS will remain in close communication with the Timbers and the MLS Players Association throughout the process.”
MLS added: “The Timbers are aware of the allegations of domestic violence concerning Andy Polo and have notified the league office. Effective immediately, Polo has been suspended by the league and removed from all team activities.
“MLS is conducting an investigation into the matter and will remain in close communication with the Timbers and the MLS Players Association throughout the process. As this is an ongoing investigation, the Timbers will have no further comment.”
