This young mum has been killed by her toddler after he shot her in the head while she was on a Zoom call with a loaded gun he had found in a drawer.

Mum Shamaya Lynn, 21, was in a work-related zoom conversation when her shocked colleague heard a bang, and then saw her fall backwards after apparently being shot.

The panicked co-worker then rang emergency services and said she believed that the young woman had been shot.

Police then arrived at the address in Altamonte Springs on the outskirts of Orlando and confirmed that she had been shot and that she died after receiving fatal injuries.

They said that the gun which was recovered had belonged to the toddler’s father, who had then shot his mother in the head. Neither of the children were injured.

Police officer Roberto Ruiz in an interview with WKMG said: “You can just imagine it’s a terrible tragedy for any family to face, one that has devastated her entire family and our community.”

On the Altamonte Springs Police Department Facebook page they released a statement saying: “On 08/11/2021, a member of a Zoom conference call dialled 911 when one of the participants, Shamaya Lynn (DOB 6/19/2000) appeared to be in need of help.

“The person stated that during the work-related call they saw a toddler in the background and heard a noise, just before Ms. Lynn fell backwards and never returned to the call.

“Officers and paramedics did their best in rendering aid to Mrs Lynn, but she was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

“Investigators determined that the injury was caused by a toddler who found a loaded handgun, which was left unsecured by an adult in the apartment.

“The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working closely with the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office concerning any charges which may be appropriate for the owner of the firearm.”

Police officer Ruiz reminded people owning firearms to keep them locked and secured if further incidents like this are to be avoided.

Messages of condolence had flooded into the young woman’s Facebook page, with some people saying that the father needs to be locked up for being so irresponsible, while others simply pass on their condolences to the family and the hope that she rests in peace.
