As well as the missing ear, the kitten was checked over by a vet and was also found serious bruising on its back.

Vets believe the cat was deliberately injured.

A spokesperson for animal protection society Peta Judith Pein launched a public appeal, saying: “Please help us solve this heartless crime.

“People who attack helpless animals and abuse them would also be capable of hurting other people.”

According to reports, passersby found the helpless kitten and took it to the animal centre.

While animal shelter workers are appealing to the public for further information, the local police have also confirmed they are investigating the incident.

The NGO Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is reportedly offering a reward of 1,000 EUR (860 GBP) for anyone able to provide information that leads to the culprit being found.
