This stray dog has been rescued three days after being skewered with an arrow along with a note reading “this nuisance of a dog deserves to die”.

The shocking incident occurred in Jinan City, Shandong Province in East China after a man, surnamed Zhang, found the wounded stray dog moaning on the ground near his home.

He was reportedly shocked to find the pooch had been pierced with an arrow and was bleeding on the ground.

Zhang called the police and contacted the Taishan Small Animal Protection Association.

An unnamed activist from the association then came to take the wounded dog to a veterinarian. He told local press: “It had been about 3 days since the dog was shot. The wound was infected.”

The dog underwent surgery to remove the arrow from its body and bandage its wound. The vets reportedly noticed a note attached to the arrow reading “this nuisance of a dog deserves to die”.

The unnamed vet showed the X-ray of the arrow in the dog’s body and said: “The arrow is only two or three centimetres from the dog’s stomach. It was lucky to some extent.”

PETA Asia press officer for China, Keith Guo, told Asia Wire: “Numerous pieces of research in psychology and criminology show that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals don’t stop there—many of them move on to their fellow humans.

“PETA hopes the police can find the dangerous abuser as soon as possible to stop the person from hurting others. Stray animals on the street are suffering from starvation, disease, traffic and even abuse.

“To solve this problem we urge kind people to adopt, don’t shop, and always take animals to be spayed or neutered to try to stop more animals being born on the street.”

The police investigation into the incident is ongoing. The dog’s current status is unclear although its wound is not believed to have been fatal.
