This is the moment a thief jogs up behind a mum walking hand-in-hand down the street with her young daughter and wrestles the woman’s phone out of her hand before fleeing.

The footage was taken by a CCTV camera in the Yenisehir district of Mersin province in Turkey.

In the video, mother H.E., of Lebanese origin, can be seen walking down the road holding her young daughter’s hand as she talks on the phone.

A man can be seen walking behind them and he then begins jogging up to them. The thief then grabs the mother’s phone with both hands before spinning and sprinting away from the scene.

The shocked woman then filed a complaint at Yenisehir police station and an investigation was launched.

Local media report officers checked around 40 security cameras in the area and they managed to identify the suspect. 

They raided a home in the area and two suspects were detained, A.K., a minor believed to have committed the crime, and M.K., who is said to have been forcing the youngster to commit crimes.

Both suspects were charged, found guilty and sent to jail as they await sentencing.
