Three Way Wedding Of Influencer Throuple In Religiously Conservative Brazil Raises Eyebrows

An influencer ‘throuple’ has caused a stir in highly religious Brazil after tying the knot three ways and live-streaming their wedding ceremony to followers.

Lucky groom Diego Goncalves, 30, wed brides Sanny Rodrigues, 28, and Karina Matos, 25, in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, on Wednesday, 21st July.

They live-streamed their ceremony attended by family and friends to their 62,600 Instagram followers.

The three are active on their Instagram page ‘Trisal Brasilia’ (‘Brasilia Throuple’), through which they document the ins and outs of living in a three-way relationship.

The live stream of the wedding ceremony has since racked up over 106,000 views and has garnered numerous comments congratulating the throuple on getting hitched.

Despite the vast majority of comments being positive, the wedding also attracted some negative attention, with Instagram user Vanessa Oliveira commenting: “This goes against God’s Word.”

Despite 10 percent of Brazilians being irreligious, 50 percent are Catholic and 31 percent Evangelical. Just one percent of the country identifies as atheist.

The Catholic Church and Evangelical churches prohibit polygyny, and the practice is both illegal and criminalised in Brazil. As such, it is unlikely the throuple’s marriage has any legal weight.

Despite Brazil’s widespread religious conservatism, netizen Denize Velozo, commented: “This type of relationship happens all the time. They just had the courage to admit it. Congratulations.”

The ceremony was conducted by the throuple’s friend, Catia Damasceno, who works as a sexologist and has 5.6 million followers on Instagram, where she discusses sex and relationships.

In addition to her Instagram page, Catia has a YouTube channel, where she boasts over 8 million subscribers.

Diego and Sanny met through social network Orkut 15 years ago and they started dating when they were still in their teens.

The couple married in a civil ceremony at the ages of 18 and 16 respectively, and they had a son, Miguel, who is now four years old.

Miguel was not the only addition to the family, however, as after 10 years of monogamy, Diego and Sanny decided to expand their relationship.

Sanny said: “We saw our love was so great that we wanted to share it with another person. I’m bisexual, but Diego isn’t, so we had to opt for a woman, and not a man, to choose a triangular relationship where everyone is involved.”

They met Karina through Tinder and, shortly afterwards, the three were living together. They have been in a serious relationship since November 2019.

According to Sanny, neither her nor Karina’s families accepted their relationship at first. She said: “We had to let go of people we loved for not accepting our relationship, and that persists to this day.”

Catia wrote of the throuple’s wedding: “It was so beautiful. And love is thus, it has to be light, lived and always celebrated, be it straight, homo, bi, trans, monogamous or polyamorous.

“As long as there is truth and respect amongst all involved, love will be what it was born to be, simply love.”
