Thirsty Anteater Allows Helper To Stroke It For Water During Wildfires In Argentina

This is the moment a cute anteater rolls on its back and lets a helper stroke it while he gives it much-needed water during a devastating wildfire in Argentina.

Wildfires have devastated parts of the north-eastern Argentine province of Corrientes, including around 40 percent of the Ibera National Park, which is home to wetlands, native forests and animals such as the anteater.

Environmentalist Luis Martinez was in the area when he came across a dehydrated anteater and offered the furry animal a drink of water.

In the footage, Martinez is seen approaching the anteater and managing to stroke its head as it stares intently at the bottle of water in his hands.

The animal appears to go all gooey while being stroked, and flops to the ground on its back in submission.

Martinez then pours some water on the anteater as the video comes to an end.

He said on Instagram: “In the interior of Corrientes, there are many animals that are thirsty, tired and stressed as they flee from the fires raging in their habitat, and they are forced to move to unknown areas, as was the case of this anteater that fled from the fires.”

In another post, Martinez said: “The animals just want us to help them. Restoring all the damage that is being caused in the province of Corrientes is enormous and it will take years to recover, but together we will achieve it.”
