This is the bizarre moment a gang of thieves break into a parked van but only steal the vehicle’s sliding door which they load into a getaway vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The incident took place outside a cafe in the district of Bayrampasa in the north-western Turkish province of Istanbul and was filmed by local CCTV cameras.

According to reports, the van belonged to cafe owner Celal Demirbilek who told local media: “I was shocked, I couldn’t believe it. Then I started laughing. I am still laughing, it’s a funny situation.

“They stole my door in less than three minutes but didn’t take my wallet. There was no money in it so they would have probably thrown it on the street.

“I do not know why they stole the door. They might have taken it for their own vehicle or to sell it to a junk dealer.

According to reports, the thieves broke a front window to get into the van before removing the sliding door.

In the CCTV footage, two men are seen taking the door to a waiting van with at least one other accomplice before driving off.

A cafe customer realised that the van had been broken into and informed Demirbilek and the local police.

Cops arrived on the scene and studied the CCTV footage. The police investigation is ongoing.
