A former ‘The Voice Mexico’ contestant has died after days of agony caused by injecting vitamins into his bottom.

Gerardo Demara, better known as Jerry Demara, 42, died at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Bawley in the US state of California, relatives informed on 30th November.

The singer was a contestant on ‘La Voz Mexico’ (‘The Voice Mexico’) in 2012 and collaborated with Latin singer and coach Paulina Rubio.

In 2018 he was nominated at the Latin Grammy Awards for Best Regional Mexican album.

He shared a video from hospital where he was staying shortly before his death, telling his followers that he had been hospitalised by the vitamin injections.

He said: “I am in the hospital because I have a problem in [my] bottom.

“By mistake, I used [the injections on] three different days, far from each other. I injected vitamins and the day before yesterday I did the same in the other part of my bottom.

“I have been suffering strong pain, around 12 levels out of 10, for six hours.

“I took everything I could and I arrived at the hospital, but it was horrible. They are bad people here.”

It is unclear what the vitamins were and what they were meant for.

His sister and wife both confirmed the death on social media, but did not say what had caused it.

According to his wife, Claudia Plascencia, Jerry had “unbearable pain in his leg and bottom and almost fainted”.

She reported that he was “delirious and vomiting” before going to the hospital.

Before his death, the singer complained that hospital staff did not offer him a glass of water and that he had not received proper medical attention.

He was allegedly made to wait for hours in agony and was just given “two pills that did absolutely nothing”.

It is not known if the family is planning to take legal action against the hospital.
