The is the shocking moment a dad and his two children planning to go swimming in a local lake are hit by a lorry as they try to make it over a crossing in front of a lorry.

The terrible incident took place at around 2.50pm in the village of Zhambyl in the Karasay District of Almaty Region in Kazakhstan, on 28 June.

The CCTV footage shows a man with a schoolchild and a small child in a stroller as they cross at a pedestrian crossing.

Realising that they will need to move faster to beat the lorry, they start running and instead end up in front of the vehicle which then hits the father and girl, with the child in the stroller only pushed out of the way at the last minute.

The clip was shared on social media with the following message: “A shoemaker, a local resident. He went to the river with the children to swim. The girl and the man died on the spot, the child in the stroller was pushed out of the way at the last minute. The boy is alive.”

The 45-year-old driver of the ZIL truck, whose name was not revealed, was travelling south on the highway at the 30th kilometre mark when he hit three on the clearly marked pedestrian crossing.

Police confirmed that a 53-year-old local resident and a nine-year-old child died on the spot due to the injuries received. The three-year-old was taken to hospital.

According to the news website Inalmaty, the regional health department reported that the three-year-old boy injured in the accident was hospitalized at Karasai regional hospital. The child was admitted to the traumatology department with a diagnosis of closed craniocerebral trauma, and concussion. His condition is described as stable.

Almaty Police Department initiated a criminal proceeding against the driver who is being investigated for “Violation of traffic rules or operation of transport vehicles by persons, and driving of a vehicle that led to the death of two or more persons through negligence.”

The investigation is ongoing.
