This is the moment a thief gets his comeuppance as a shard of glass from a bottle of alcohol he tries to steal from a store lodges in his bum after he drops it and slips.

Footage caught on a security camera inside the convenience store shows how the man takes the bottle of liquor from a shelf and tries to conceal it in his swim shorts.

However, he has clearly not thought his plan through, and the bottle simply slips through the loose-fitting garment and onto the hard floor, where it smashes.

The would-be thief can be seen trying to sweep the fragments of glass away and walk off unsuspectingly, but he then slips on the spilled liquid from the bottle.

The footage shows how his leg is swept from underneath him and he lands backside-first on the hard floor with a thud.

It is unclear where the incident took place, but the clip started doing the rounds on Brazilian social media on Wednesday, 6th April, before hitting headlines.

According to reports in Brazilian media outlets, a shard of glass from the smashed bottle lodged deep in the hapless thief’s right buttock, and he ended up in hospital.

Netizens suggested he also lacerated his anus in the process, though local media outlets were unable to confirm this graphic detail.
