This is the moment a home alone four-year-old girl cries for her mum perched on the edge of a third-floor balcony as terrified onlookers hold a life net below to save her if she falls.
The incident took place in the colony Modelo Pensil, in the municipality of Miguel Hidalgo, in the Mexican capital Mexico City and was recorded by an onlooker.
Local media reported that a neighbour noticed that the girl was on the balcony wall on the third floor, around 10 metres (32 feet) high, and called the emergency services.
Emergency workers went to the scene and worked to spread a life net below the girl to catch her if she fell from the balcony whilst other workers went up to the flat and knocked on the door without an answer.
In the video, the tot can be seen sitting on the edge of the balcony wall with her legs dangling off the edge as she begins to cry.
The girl begins crying for her mother as onlookers try to reassure her and calm her down.
According to local media, a woman arrived later and identified herself as Karina I, saying she was the mother of the girl and claiming that she had to go out to “look at some papers”. She said she had left the girl under the care of her father.
However, local residents claimed the girl’s family are drug addicts and her grandfather is an alcoholic.
Due to these accusations, the girl is now under the care of the Specialist Agency in Youth and Adolescents attention where her situation will be determined.
Reports state a police officer managed to get into the flat with the help of neighbours and at the end of the clip the officer can be seen lifting the girl to safety.
Victor Romo, the Mayor of Miguel Hidalgo, said on his Twitter account “thanks to the police officers for their great work in the rescue of the little girl who was at risk on the balcony of the building”.
Mayor Romo commented that the girl is healthy.
The case is being investigated and no arrests have been reported.
