At first glance it is hard to see the terrifying threat which caused a young mum to snatch her baby from this pram but the rubber looking snake tucked in the side is actually the real thing.

The frightening incident took place at the popular beach of Strand on the Danube river in the city of Novi Sad in northern Serbia, and the worried father, whose identity has not been disclosed, took a photo of the pram after his wife snatched their baby to safety.

In the photo, the snake can be seen tucked around the rim of the pram as if it was a toy. But the tot’s dad told local media that the serpent had sneaked into the position as his four-month-old baby was dozing.

He confirmed: “The snake has sneaked in while the baby was sleeping in the pram.

“Luckily my wife noticed it in time and immediately took the child out.”

He added that then a rescuer called the authorities but it is not clear how the snake was removed or the exact species of snake involved. Local media have not reported if the baby was a boy or a girl.

Ivan Nozinic from the Public Utility Company “Gradsko Zelenilo” (“City’s Greenery”), a company which maintains parks and green areas under whose jurisdiction the Strand beach falls, told local media that their workers at the beach had not received a report about the incident.

He added: “Such things occur fortunately very rarely because snakes are fearful animals and tend to flee from people- Having said that snakes showing up on a beach is a completely normal thing and people from Novi Sad are used to it.”

Netizen ‘Marina Hodzic’ commented: “Terrifying, I have a baby and I would suffer a breakdown.”

While ‘Isidora Ljubicic’ added: “What do you expect by the river…”

And ‘Retkazverka’ asked: “How is that possible? How didn’t the parents not see a snake slithering around the pram?”

And ‘Milica’ wrote: “Young mothers should know that snakes go where they sense the smell of milk. In this case it felt it in the baby.”
