Tense Moments As Gunman Takes Female Hostage Before Off Duty Cop Shoots Him Dead

This is the dramatic moment a robber takes a woman hostage at gunpoint before a cop shoots him dead, allowing his hostage to go free unscathed following a tense standoff.

The incident took place when three men entered a mobile phone store and announced a holdup in the Brazilian city of Angra dos Reis on the morning of 7th July.

An off-duty cop saw the incident unfold and he called the police, who came to the scene. Two of the suspects handed themselves in. However, a third took employee Vitoria Oliveira hostage.

He left the store and walked down the street holding Vitoria in one arm and his pistol in his other hand. Footage filmed by onlookers shows him surrounded by armed cops and bystanders.

After many tense minutes, several shots are heard. In the end, it was an off-duty cop from a different force mingling with the bystanders who waited for the right moment and opened fire.

The gunman is then seen lying motionless on the ground as the bystanders applaud the cop’s actions. He was later taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In total, Vitoria was held hostage for at least 20 minutes, during which time her captor aimed his pistol at her head several times. The officers repeatedly tried to negotiate with him, but to no avail.

After he is shot, Vitoria is seen crying as she is taken away from the scene unscathed. She later took to social media to write: “I want to thank everyone for their concern and love.

“I’m well, thank God. I’m unable to speak at the moment, but as soon as things calm down, I’ll reply one by one. Thank you, everyone.”

The police seized a weapon from the scene. They believe another man who was providing cover fled and is still at large, and they will investigate a passing car for possible involvement.

The officers say the hostage taker had tried to fire his loaded pistol, but it apparently jammed and the bullet remained inside. They are unsure if he tried to shoot his hostage or a cop.

The investigation continues.
