This is the moment a cash-in-transit van is sprayed with bullets during a failed heist.

The dramatic footage was filmed inside a money-laden Land Cruiser on the N4 freeway in Pretoria, South Africa, on 22nd April.

The driver of the vehicle and his colleague sitting in the passenger seat can be seen appearing on edge during the tense three-minute episode.

Thuds are heard as bullets fired from another travelling vehicle pound against the Land Cruiser, and its glass windows can be seen shattering.

Despite their evident apprehensiveness, the two colleagues manage to stay collected as the man in the passenger seat grabs a rifle with one hand and a handgun with the other in preparation for a potential gunfight.

A high-speed chase ensues, with the driver of the vehicle speeding and swerving in his attempt to lose the criminals pursuing and shooting at them.

Both are wearing bulletproof vests, and the driver asks his colleague to phone for backup before coming to a grinding halt off the main road.

The driver then takes the rifle and gets out of the van in wait for the attackers before the footage ends.

According to the police, the robbers fled without taking any money, and both men inside the Land Cruiser were uninjured.

At the time of reporting, no arrests had been made, and it is not clear how many attackers were involved and if any of them have been identified.

It is not clear if the case is being investigated.
