Teen Who Murdered Her Brother, 3, Appears In Court

A schoolgirl accused of stabbing her three-year-old half-brother to death before writing a message in on the wall in his blood will appear in court today (MON) in Germany.

Schoolgirl Olivia, 15, allegedly stabbed her blonde haired, blue-eyed little brother ‘Nico’ 28 times as he slept after sneaking into his bedroom when she was supposed to be looking after him. She then allegedly wrote in his blood on the wall in the attack in November last year saying: “Here is your son”.

The schoolgirl faces 10 years of youth detention if convicted of killing her three-year-old half-brother.

She was born in the city of Lodz in Poland and when her parents separated she stayed with her father before she moved to Germany to live with her mother at the age of 10. Local media report that her relationship with her father was “difficult”. When as Olivia moved to Germany, her mother was pregnant with her new partner who left the family a short while after the baby was born.

It left Olivia with her mother Agnieszka P., 46, as well as her grandmother and her half-brother Nicolas in the small three-room flat in Detmold in Germany where she increasingly had to look after him because the other two were working.

One of the questions the court will have to decide on is motive, with police finding that as well as the pressure of caring for her younger brother she was also facing bullying at school herself, and tried to escape her life by playing horror games on the computer and watching horror films.

Her mother was working there in the city in in North Rhine Westphalia as a cleaner and on the night of the killing, the teenager had allegedly researched on the Internet the best way to murder someone.

In an interview with German media, the mother said: “When I saw his body in the bed I thought at first he was sleeping, I stroked his hair and then I realised he wasn’t sleeping. He was dead.”

Asked if she could forgive her daughter, she said: “Yes.”

She added: “She is my child. I would never leave her alone. I love her over everything, just like my son Nikolas. I want to stand by her side and to hold her in my arms.”

As to the motive the mother said she was baffled, as the two children who both had different fathers had always had a good relationship previously. She showed photos of the two playing and grinning together.

She admitted however that the younger brother had often annoyed his older sister, and added: “I had no idea that so much hatred against him had developed inside her.”

In the meantime she has managed to move out of the flat where the murder happened. She is living back with her mother in the hope that she can regain her strength for the challenges ahead.

Police started a search immediately after the killing including a helicopter search and then later released a picture of her, resulting in her being found some 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from the scene of the killing. A police officer arrested her, saying that she showed no sign of resistance and appeared calm.

German prosecutor’s said the trial is likely to take place in mid-April, behind closed doors because of the age of the schoolgirl.

The girl has reportedly not denied killing her brother.
