The suspect called and turned himself to the police and was arrested the same day. At first, he claimed he acted in self-defence, but it was not found credible by the court.

The court has now convicted him of manslaughter and he was sentenced to two years in a juvenile detention centre.

The victim’s father told the court: “That moment of having to leave my beautiful, sweet girl behind in a chilly cemetery is in front of my eyes forever and causes an incredible amount of pain.”

According to the Dutch criminal law, young people aged from 12 to 18 receive lower sentence than adults. The maximum prison sentence for juveniles is two years.
