A 17-year-old girl’s boyfriend shot her and four of her siblings, killing her three-year-old sister after they had a row.
The tragedy happened when Kenyatta Lee Oglesby, 20, shot and wounded all five, including his girlfriend, her three sisters and a brother.
One of the sisters, Journee Caroll, 3, was declared dead by police officers who were responding to a call about the shooting at the family home in the town of Dumfries, in the US state of Virginia, on Wednesday, 4th January, shortly before 11am.
Prince William County Police Department said that the accused, who is from Washington D.C., had been staying with the family and had reportedly argued with his girlfriend outside the home before shooting her and wounding her. He then allegedly went into the basement and shot the four other victims.
The police said in a statement dated 4th January and obtained by Newsflash that their “detectives have charged a 20-year-old DC man in connection to the quintuple shooting that occurred on Milroy Dr in Dumfries earlier today. One of the victims, a 3-year-old girl, was killed, four other juveniles between 14-17 were seriously injured.”
They added that Oglesby was being held without bond. He has reportedly been charged with murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
A page to raise funds for the family, to cover little Journee’s funeral and the other family member’s medical expenses has been set up on the GoFundMe platform, with the summary stating: “On September 12, 2022 , the Carroll-Gatling family was forever changed. Portia Carroll passed and left her 8 children behind. Their lives were uprooted and changed drastically overnight.
“Little did we know that only three months later another tragedy would occur and this time directly involve her beautiful children.
“On January 4, 2023 Portia’s beautiful three year old baby girl was murdered, her three older daughters were shot (multiple times) and her brother was also shot. More information pertaining to the shooting is in the article below.” (sic)
At the time of writing, it had notched up over USD 24,000 out of a USD 30,000 goal.
The fundraiser summary also said: “The four children are currently in the Trauma ICU fighting. They have a long road ahead.
“This fundraiser is to raise money to support the family. During this time they are in need of support with food, transportation/gas to and from the Trauma center, medical needs and also preparing to give Journee the memorial she deserves, to honor her memory and say our goodbyes.
