A tragic teenage girl who suddenly dropped dead from heart failure had been taking diet pills before her death.

The tragic death took place when the girl who had reportedly not eaten all day had gone to at the Opera night club in the city of Barnaul in south-central Russia’s Altai Krai region.

The 19-year-old student, only identified by her first name Anastasia, had been dancing and had reportedly only drunk a beer before she started feeling bad at the club around 4 am.

Her friends, whose names have not been reported, said that she had not even seen her drink a beer and said: “She was at the club all the time, she did not eat or drink anything.”

She added: “This all happened in a split second. Anastasia lost consciousness and dropped to the floor, and never recovered.”

Onlookers claim that people were doing their best to help her throughout the 40 minutes while they were waiting for ambulance.

By the time the medical team had arrived, doctors could only confirm her death from “cardiac arrest”.

Her family said she had low haemoglobin levels and had felt faint earlier in the day before she went to the club.

She was taking special pills to stay skinny according to local media including Russian daily Komsomolskaya Pravda, citing sources in the investigation.

Dietitian Denis Fugol meanwhile said that diet pills badly used could prove fatal, adding: “They include medication that suppress appetite, very often those are psycho-stimulants that suppress hunger and overexcite ones nervous system.”

Friends of the young woman have rejected the idea that her diet was to blame for her death and together with her family they are awaiting the results of the postmortem.
